Amazon’s customized t-shirt service prompts you to add footage of your self

Amazon is launching a new service that will allow users to create custom shirts that are tailored to their size.

The service called Made for You creates a custom t-shirt for buyers based on their measurements. Buyers can customize a t-shirt based on the fabric type, color, length, fit, neckline, and sleeve length. The custom t-shirt is $ 25 and the service is available to anyone in the United States

Users are required to tell Amazon their height, weight, body style and two photos of themselves that were taken using the Amazon app. From there, Amazon creates a “Virtual Body Double” modeled after the user to create a custom fit and visualize how the clothes would look on their body.

According to Amazon, all photos taken in the app will be automatically deleted after duplicating a user’s virtual body. Users can delete their size information at any time.

Over time, Amazon hopes to add more styles to the service based on user feedback. While customers only have two body style options to choose from at launch – female and male – Amazon plans to add more options as additional data is collected.

The service adds to Amazon’s growing ambitions in the fashion space. The company opened luxury stores for designer fashion brands in September and has a wide range of private label fashion brands on its website. Both the Luxury Stores and the Made for You service use the 3D body modeling technology that Amazon relied on when it acquired the startup Body Labs for 3D imaging in 2017.

Amazon has also experimented with personalized shopping experiences in recent years, taking over the Stitch Fix cloakroom subscription service, for example. These include Prime Wardrobe, a service that allows Prime members to try on clothes before they buy, and the recently discontinued Echo Look, a device that made fashion recommendations.
