Jake Paul meets UFC fighter Ben Askren in a boxing match

Jake Paul, the internet personality turned pro boxer has his next fight kit and this time he will be up against a real professional fighter.

Paul will face former UFC fighter Ben Askren in an eight-round professional boxing match on April 17th, Triller co-founder Ryan Kavanaugh told ESPN.

The fight will take place under the banner of the Triller Fight Club and will serve as the main event. The venue, which will be broadcast on traditional pay-per-view platforms, has not yet been determined.

The full map, which will feature household names from the world of boxing, present and past, as well as other social media celebrities and MMA fighters, all of whom participate in boxing matches, will be released in the coming weeks.

Kavanaugh says the fight will be played with 10-ounce gloves in a 20-by-20 ring. It will be the first professional boxing match in Askren’s career.

“I know Jake Paul likes to pretend he’s a fighter,” Askren said. “I think on April 17th he will rudely wake up to what it really is to be a fighter. Jake has lived a privileged life and doesn’t really know what it is to be a fighter. I’ll say his dreams go over. “

Askren, who is still under contract with the UFC, received permission from the company to take up the fight, sources say.

While the weight class for the fight has not yet been finalized, it is expected to be in the 185-190 pound range.

Paul, a 24-year-old widely considered one of the most popular and polarizing personalities on the internet and the younger brother of social media influencer Logan Paul, has made waves in the boxing world since his debut in January 2020 that night he beat his Colleague YouTuber AnEsonGib, real name Ali Loui Al-Fakhri, on TKO in the first round. He followed with a round of 16 against former NBA player Nate Robinson in November.

Since then, Paul, who is also an actor and rapper, has called him from a number of professional fighters and athletes. He finally decided to fight Askren next.

“Ben Askren is a two-time NCAA Champion, world champion in two different global mixed martial arts organizations, and has fewer losses than Conor McGregor,” said Paul.

“On the other hand, I started boxing two years ago and I’m still going to kick his ass faster than that [Jorge] Masvidal. These MMA people think because they throw punches they know how to box. The world was complaining because I knocked out a basketball player and not a real fighter. Now I give people what they want by facing a “real fighter”. What can anyone say after adding Ben Askren to my knockout memes collection? Many thanks to the Triller Fight Club for giving me the platform to put a man back to sleep. On April 17th, the lights go out for Askren. “

Askren, 36, retired from MMA last year after announcing that he would need hip replacement surgery. He was operated on successfully in August.

His athletic résumé is impressive. Achievements include former two-time NCAA wrestling champion, two-time Dan Hodge Trophy winner, a 2008 Olympic gold medalist and a former Bellator and One Championship welterweight champion.

He started his career with a perfect 19-0 (1 NC) before being knocked out by Masvidal in five seconds in July 2019. This is the fastest knockout in UFC history. His last fight was a submission loss against Demian Maia in October 2019.

“Triller took the opportunity to allow Jake and Triller fans to hear their voices for who Jake was supposed to fight,” said Kavanaugh. “The overwhelming voice was Askren.”

This is the second boxing event that Triller, a video making and social networking app, has hosted. The first was co-headlined by Mike Tyson against Roy Jones Jr. and Paul against Robinson in November.
