Words from Kirsty McCormack
Lisbon is the perfect destination for a city break, rain or shine. If you’re looking for a central hotel with outstanding decor and a stunning overall experience, the only Tivoli Avenida Liberdade should be at the top of your list.
Located on the city’s main avenue, Avenida da Liberdade, this five star hotel is the best location for those looking to immerse themselves in city life as it offers easy access to most of the city’s landmarks, famous neighborhoods and monuments, Museums and places to go out.
Portugal’s capital is the oldest city in Western Europe and one of the oldest cities in the world. So there is a lot of history and sights. Lisbon also has one of the mildest climates on the continent, which means you must surely have pleasant weather to explore the area and even spend some time by the sea.
The city is known to be built on seven hills: Castelo, Graca, Monte, Penha de Franca, S. Pedro de Alcantara, Santa Catarina and Estrela – so be prepared for lots of walks – or enjoy a ride on one of the many of Lisbon’s trams which are also a great photo opportunity.
The reception and lounge area is huge, but inviting thanks to the comfortable-looking armchairs and sofas
The central location of Tivoli Avenida Liberdade undoubtedly sets the hotel apart from other locations in Lisbon city center – as does the decor, service and overall experience during your stay.
As soon as you step in through the main doors it is obvious that this is no ordinary hotel. The reception and lounge area is huge, but inviting thanks to the comfortable-looking armchairs and sofas.
The hotel has offered exceptional hospitality since 1933, so it is no surprise that they are experts in making sure guests feel special. Whether you are just looking for a place to relax in between those packed days as a tourist, or just want to spend your time in the hotel’s spa and restaurants, your stay at Tivoli Avenida Liberdade will be just as pleasant.
The bedroom of the Presidential Suite on Tivoli Avenida Liberdade
We’re not exaggerating when we say you don’t want to leave your room on Tivoli Avenida Liberdade. Whether you stay in a deluxe avenue view room or a junior suite, the decor is simple yet elegant. All rooms are equipped with an LCD TV, a Nespresso machine and luxury toiletries. And if you choose a family deluxe or a suite, you have the choice between a walk-in shower and a huge bathtub.
So when you’ve had a long day of sightseeing and had a few too many tapas, chances are you’ll be putting on your complimentary white robe and slippers and getting ready for a perfect night’s sleep in your room’s huge bed. The hotel is supplied complete with the typical hotel bed linen.
The impressive SKY BAR BY SEEN offers a breathtaking view over the city
When dining and drinking at Tivoli Avenida Liberdade, you’ll be spoiled for choice and both of the hotel’s impressive restaurants are well worth it.
SEEN Lisboa is described as a new place for “sin and be seen” and is upstairs in the hotel. The sushi is a must. The menu is extensive and has everything a sushi lover would expect and much more. I would particularly recommend the lobster roll and the new sashimi, but there are also fresh oysters, octopus carpaccio and a Wagyu burger on the menu.
Everyone loves a cocktail for dinner, so either before or after your meal you can take a seat outside and marvel at the breathtaking views at SKY BAR BY SEEN. Possibly the trendiest rooftop in Lisbon, the bar is open until 1am. Thanks to the outdoor heating and the extensive cocktail menu, you are sure to stay warm.
In addition to an impressive wine and champagne collection, SKY BAR BY SEEN also offers a range of gin and tonic infusions as well as some pretty unique preparations like the mezcal fizz forever and the greenish cooler cocktail.
The Cervejaria Liberdade serves the best fish and seafood from the 800 km long Portuguese coast
Breakfast is served in the on-site restaurant, Cervejaria Liberdade, which is also a good choice for lunch and dinner as it serves the best fish and seafood from the 800 km long Portuguese coast.
The environment is definitely more formal than SEEN and the food was absolutely delicious with lots of dishes perfect for sharing making it a great place for a romantic dinner for two. An appetizer to try is the shelled crab and the arraiolos butter cheese, which is served with a homemade pumpkin jam.
It is recommended that meat be a must after any seafood starter, and Cervejaria Liberdade is famous for its tartare, cooked to your table to your taste. Other meat dishes include grilled pork steaks and delicious lamb chops.
It’s worth noting that the hotel also offers in-room dining, as well as drinks and snacks at the lobby bar, until 1am.
The Anantara Spa offers a wide range of treatments, from soothing foot rituals to Thai massages
When you’ve done all of the sightseeing your feet can handle, the Anantara Spa is at your disposal for maximum relaxation. The menu features a range of treatments, from soothing foot rituals and body scrubs to traditional Thai massages and heavenly facials.
There is also an outdoor pool that can be used in the warmer months. The Anantara Spa is open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. However, the hotel recommends booking in advance to avoid disappointment.
