Reddit and global news sites like FT, New York Times, and Bloomberg are experiencing an outage where some users cannot access the sites.

Some visitors to the UK and US websites received an error message: “Error 503 Service Unavailable.”

The UK government website, gov.uk, is also affected.

The US cloud computing service provider Fastly currently has a technical problem.

In an update at 5:58 a.m. ET, the company announced on its website that it is investigating the issue. It has provided several updates since it was announced that it would continue its investigation.

Fastly operates a content delivery (or distribution) network. This is a network of servers and data centers around the world that enables the transfer of assets necessary to load internet content such as HTML pages, Javascript files, images and videos.

Matt Taylor, a product manager at FT, wrote on Twitter: “Fastly the CDN provider has a massive outage, causing Twitch, Pinterest, Reddit, The Guardian, and the FT to return 503 errors.”

This is an evolving news story.
