Males’s Olympic Soccer Championship 2021: Up to date Tables, Outcomes, Outcomes of the Soccer Match

At the 2021 Games in Tokyo, 16 nations will fight for Olympic football gold. The usual European and South American heavyweights are positioned as favorites before the tournament: Spain, France, Germany, Brazil and Argentina.

Each men’s national soccer team participating in the Olympic Games consists of 22 players under the age of 24 (born on or after January 1, 1997), with the exception of three players who may be over 24 years of age. Only 18 players can attract on game day.

The men’s soccer tournament begins with a round robin group stage in which each team plays three games against the others in the group (July 22, July 25 and July 28). The teams receive three points for a win, one for a draw and none for a loss. The first two in each group reach the quarter-finals, which are played in fixed pairings.

Olympic group winners

If the teams are even tied, tiebreakers are used in sequence until all ties are resolved. If after the sixth tiebreaker there is still a deadlock between two or more teams, FIFA will draw the lot (i.e. pull a name out of the hat). Here is the order of the tiebreakers, as detailed in the official tournament rules:

  1. Superior goal difference in all group games;
  2. Most goals scored in all group matches
  3. Most points scored in group matches between teams that are tied
  4. Superior goal difference in the group matches between the teams that are tied
  5. Most goals in all group matches between the teams that are drawn
  6. Best behavior result based on yellow / red cards received in all group matches
  7. Draw by FIFA if there are still teams that remain undecided
